AT&SF 2014 Convention Photos

Guys

Following the 2014 ATSF Convention in Fresno last week, I have included 8 photos of the contest entries. The file "Contest-1" shows the Steam category winners plus one.

Those who have been on the list for a while will recognize all 4 engines as ones that I did the brass work on. Gary Lewis painted and lettered all 4. The left 2 are owned by John Bruning and the right 2 by Eric Bracher. Since Eric had never entered an ATSF contest before, he qualified for the "First Time Entry" category and won it with the 3461, along with 1st place in Steam. His 3452 also took 3rd. John's 3712 took 2nd. All 4 engines had a lot of detailing upgrades, but the 3712 probably had the most, as it was backdated to an as built version, which is pretty unusual. I was happy to see it given the recognition it deserved by the voters. This was a really spectacular display of steam models enjoyed by all.

John Bruning and Gary Lewis also collaborated on the beautiful Valley Flyer train in photos 2 and 3.

There is no Whole Train category, so it was displayed in the Display Only group. There were 4 interesting trains in that display as noted in photo 3, the original Super Chief pulled by Amos and Andy, the one spot twins, the first passenger diesels on the Santa Fe, and consisting of 6 heavyweight cars.

The San Bernardino local with Atlantic 1468 and 3 cars was very interesting to John as he is putting together the same train with the 1468 that I resurrected from the dead for him. Of course, Gary Lewis will be doing the finish work as well as building up a car or two for the train. The card in front of the Valley Flyer in photo 7 explains the origin of each car.

The 4th train displayed was the Golden Gate streamliner in N Scale pulled by an E1A like my O Scale one, but a WHOLE lot smaller :)

My Key E1 A/B set in photos 4 and 5 took 2nd in Multiple Diesel Lashups.

Many people won't vote for a RTR model, which this one was, but I thought a lot of people would like to see it, which they thoroughly enjoyed. However, there were only 2 entries in this category, so I got a red ribbon anyway.

The theme of this meet was the Golden Gate, so displaying the engine that pulled the Golden Gate seemed appropriate. Since I was displaying the E1 set, I grabbed a couple of other cars to display as well. My PRB caboose won 1st in Waycars (caboose to you non ATSF modelers) and my Protocraft Bx-37 boxcar took first in the Freight Car category. I was rather surprised by that one, as it was the largest number of entries with lots of good HO competition. Both the caboose and boxcar had been super detailed, painted, lettered, and weathered by me.
